For the Animals

Stories shaped by compassion, advocacy

and a lifelong commitment to animals.

About Marie

Animal Storyteller | Author | Advocate

I believe every animal is an individual with a life, personality and story that matters.

Through my books, articles, photography and videos, I hope to help people see animals as individuals through stories that inspire compassion.

My vision is simple:

A world where every animal is seen as someone, not something.

That belief has shaped every part of my work.

From the remarkable story of my husband, U Gambira, in NARAKA, to the deeply personal journey of The Girl in the Cabin, to the stories I share about Rosella, Ruby, Missy, Simba, Clover and countless other animals, my work is united by one purpose: to encourage people to see the individual before the label.

Whether I'm writing about a rescued pony, a loyal dog, a former political prisoner or a farmed animal, I'm interested in the same question:

What changes when we truly see someone?

I hope you'll join me on that journey.

The Girl in the Cabin is the extraordinary true story of an unexpected bond beyond words, formed in the most unlikely of circumstances. At its heart is a story of compassion, trust and the quiet choices that can alter the course of a life—revealing how love can transcend boundaries, redefine family, and change us forever.

NARAKA is the true story of a Buddhist monk whose courage helped ignite a revolution against a brutal military regime. A powerful story of resistance, sacrifice and survival, it reveals the devastating price he and those who loved him would pay for daring to stand against tyranny.

French edition coming January 2027.

The Dream Language is a magical adventure about a curious boy, extraordinary creatures and a mysterious connection he cannot explain. As Chris uncovers the secrets of Iguana Island, he begins to wonder whether language is more than what is spoken—and understanding more than what is heard.

Ruby's Journey

Ruby's Journey is the extraordinary story of a little rescue pony whose gentle spirit, resilience, and unwavering trust continue to inspire hope on her journey home against all odds.

Through my books, advocacy, and storytelling, I hope to inspire greater compassion for the remarkable beings with whom we share our world.

For the Animals

This is more than a collection of books. It is a place where stories, advocacy, and a lifelong commitment to animals come together with one simple purpose—to inspire greater compassion for the remarkable beings with whom we share our world.

Here you'll find stories of courage, resilience, rescue, and hope; stories that celebrate the extraordinary emotional lives of animals and encourage us to see them not as commodities or possessions, but as sentient individuals, each with their own unique personality, relationships, and desire to live.

If these stories encourage even one person to pause, to see animals differently, or to choose compassion where they hadn't before, then every word will have been worthwhile.

"All animals are sentient. They experience joy, fear, love, pain, and the desire to live, just like us."

Happiness doesn't always announce itself.

Sometimes it just walks quietly beside you.

They Were Never
So Different

Spend enough time with animals, and something begins to unravel.

Not a scientific mystery. Not an intellectual puzzle.

A myth.

The myth that there is some vast gulf between the minds of animals and the minds of young children.

We have been taught that humans stand apart—that our thoughts are richer, our emotions deeper, our relationships more meaningful. But anyone who has truly lived alongside animals knows how quickly that illusion falls away.

"Every animal is one of God's creations, deserving of the same mercy, kindness, and protection we would hope to receive ourselves."
